Analysis of Technology Ethical Controversies and Issues

ABSTRACT

This paper proposes the causes, types, and key points of technology ethical controversies, including the following four points. 1) Replacing scientific and technological theories causes conflicts. 2) Technology strengthens the ability to control and transform nature. 3) Technologcal and scientific systems increasingly influence the world. 4) New and emerging technologies involve high risks, high input, high efficiency, are knowledge-intensive, interdisciplinary, and have wide application.  The main types of technology ethical controversies involve efficiency and equality, benefit and risk, risk and privilege, science and belief, and status of science and technology in society.  The key points of technology ethical issues include human nature value (life value), natural ecological value(environmental value), and spiritual civilization value (social value). These issues challenge traditional ethics and human moral values.

Comparison Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Budgeting and CSR Realization in Indonesia Power

ABSTRACT

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a concept that organizations, especially companies have a customer’s responsibility, employees responsibility, shareholders responsibility, communities and environment responsibility in all aspects of company operations.

CSR responsibility procedure at Indonesia Power through several stages of budget planning, budget preparation, budgeting and budget approval. Budgeting of corporate social responsibility at Indonesia Power is the source of his funds is determined based on the maximum amount of profit after tax of 2% in accordance to BUMN law (BUMN is  abrigement Badan Usaha Milik Negara –in english State owned enterprises-).

Indonesia Power have corporate social responsibility realization of his achievement in 2007, 2008 and 2009 reached 100%. The implementation of corporate social responsibility can be done in the form of setting aside some of its net profit guidance for small businesses or cooperatives and community development around the company. And so far the management of funding in Indonesia Power have to say very good because the purpose of allocating funding social responsibility itself has reached the target.

Sustainability of a Community Service Project of a Catholic University in Central Visayas, Philippines

ABSTRACT

This study sought to determine the extent of provisions for program relevance and sustainability of the institutional community project called “Project Pakigdait sa Sitio Kasagingan, Mananga” of the University of San Jose-Recoletos as assessed by its department anchors, students and program beneficiaries. The respondents were the various stakeholders of the university who were involved in the implementation and supervision of the various programs coming from the different colleges and departments and some selected beneficiaries of the community extension program. The provisions of the program relevance for promoting community development, enhancing people empowerment and the conduct of skills training among qualified community members were made to a very great extent. Likewise, the provisions for program sustainability of the project through capacity building were made to a very great extent; however, fund sourcing was provided to a great extent.
